I recently purchased this jacket for my trip to Iceland and it definitely proved to be waterproof and wind resisant as advertised and needed. It did keep me warm, but I'm not sure that the omniheat made it warmer than a different Columbia jacket with just omnitech. I'm very happy that I purchased this jacket.

This jacket is the best I've had so far. I bought a Large size since I got 1 or 2 layers underneath. Kept me warm even with the cloudy and snowy day. In the sunny day I can just wear the outside layer and good to go. It's very functional cause it's like two in one, just wear the inside when I'm off the mountain and look nice and warm. Overall very good product!

This coat has so many great features! It is extremely warm with the lining, yet comfortable and not too bulky. On milder days it is a perfect jacket without the lining. On in-between days, I wear just the lining. The outer layer repels water like a duck. It really is three coats in one. I have received many compliments on the styling of the coat. Another terrific feature is the numerous pockets, all in convenient and sensible locations. The zippers are quality and all operate smoothly without binding (a real problem I found with other coats). One of my favorite features is the sleeves in the liner part that covers your hands, yet leaves your fingers free. The coat keeps your hands warm, and also makes putting on your gloves much easier! Can't say enough good things about this coat. Love it so much, bought one as a gift for a family member.

LOVE this jacket - Its warm and very well made. I am very happy with all the features that it offers and its very versatile.
The collar makes a great seal and doesn't feel like its choking you.
Overall the jacket fits small - I ended up going with an XL so with the under-layers I wouldn't feel like I couldn't move. In my experience with Columbia jackets I always have to size up.
The stealth glove loops at the cuffs are my favorite, an awesome feature and necessity when doing snow sports where your moving fast. One of the loops ripped that holds the inner shell to the outer jacket. Called customer service and was amazed at their solution. They gave me an RMA, put a jacket on hold for me, and told me I can return ANYTIME! Will definitely buy Columbia products based just on that. In fact changed my mind and will be purchasing the Bugaboots from Columbia versus the Sorels I had my eye on. Customer service and Companies that stand behind their products are hard to come by, and I feel much more secure purchasing higher priced items like this from a Company that will stand behind their products.
Thanks Columbia!!

this jacket is waterproof, extremely warm, and versatile (due to the interchange system). i would have preferred an insulated hood, and i find the two hook-and-loop tabs along the main zipper to be annoying whenever i zip or unzip the coat. it is bulkier than i expected, more than i would need just for accommodating sweaters underneath; the cut is boxy and not as fitted in the waist as i hoped (it's tough to tell since the website does not show the jackets on actual humans).

The quality, feel, and accessories the jacket provides is Wonderful! However, I usually wear a size large in womans Columbis Jackets and just to be on the safe side I ordered a size X-Large after reading the reviews and seeing that this jacket ran a size smaller than usual. Well after two weeks of waiting to get the jacket, the armpits were so tight even with just a tight long sleave shirt on underneath. I bought the jacket with the intention of using it for down hill and cross country skiing however the inner jacket allows for no movement with your arms which does not work for skiing at all. The shell fit fine for moving your arms however there is no Omni-Heat material in the shell which defeats the overall purpose of using the jacket for out door sports. Living in Grand Marais Minnesota, I spent a total of $20 in Shipping and Handling costs to recieve the jacket and to mail it back which really is frustrating.
I stand by Columbia and feel their jacket quality is worth the money. This jacket just had some weird issues in sizing is all. I do highly recomend the jacket but only to those who want to wear it for casual wear...it truely is a beautiful jacket.

I just got my new Whirlibird jacket and I love it! I am such a wimp when it comes to cold and I am so happy to have found a jacket that is going to keep me warm. I haven't taken it skiing yet but I know it's going to be awesome, with its three jackets in one I am set for the ski season here in Colorado, Winter thru Spring! One of my favorite features is the sleeve that slips over the thumb, keeps my hands warm and will be a happy additional layer on my hands when I am skiing, also a good way to keep my hands warm while putting my gear away.
In general I have always been pleased with the quality of Columbia products. Excellent quality and a reasonable price.
Oh and the fit is just right and I love the color...

I was initially turned off of this jacket by the price, but I *love* Columbia jackets and I was really drawn to the features of the Whirlibird. After looking around for a suitable winter jacket, I kept coming back to this one. I was unsure of buying in a bright color, so I purchased the Whirlibird in Black Plaid--SUCH a good idea! The plaid is subtle but nice. (I bought mine in-store and saw a few of the other color options--the pink and the blue were vibrant, bright, and gorgeous.) So far I've worn it in wind, rain, snow, sleet and cold and it's held up perfectly. The weather's not too cold yet, so I zip out the Omni-heat liner and wear just that. It keeps me extremely warm and the cut is fitting and flattering so I don't feel like a snowman walking to and from class. The Interchange system is simple and functional, and (for me) takes only about 30 seconds to switch in & out. I love how many spacious pockets there are--one for everything I need to carry. The adjustable cuffs on the sleeves and the drawstrings at the hips & in the hood keep the cold lake-winds out. And, although I really like glove loops at the cuffs, on the Whirlibird the cuffs are a little tight and the loops tend to tug at the thumbs. I find myself frequently adjusting them, but it's not too bad. Overall, a FANTASTIC parka and well worth the money--it's an investment for hopefully many years of winters.

I love it. I had a hard time deciding whether or not to purchase that jacket as opposed to others but really, it is all encompassing. The only thing I wish was that the inside jacket could also be waterproof. But even at that, it is so toasty warm that it makes up for it. I highly recommend it.

I have always been so much colder than everyone else, to the point where it actually causes pain in my body. I have been searching for the warmest jacket possible for a very, very long time. I didn't want to buy another average jacket that I have to layer up under...that's annoying. This jacket is awesome! The Omni-heat technology really does work. At first when you put the jacket on the material may be a little cold, but it starts to warm up and then it feels like you have a heater inside your jacket. Super warm. It is not too bulky either. I can wear whatever shirt I'm wearing without the need to put on additional layers to stay warm. The only thing I don't care for is the finger holes in the sleeves of the omniheat layer. They are hard to get off because they are so tight! When I'm snowboarding this will be an awesome feature but for just regular use it can be a little annoying. I was between this jacket and a $400 North Face. This jacket was half the price and warmer too! Very Happy with my Purchase!

Columbia lived up to its name. I did plenty of research on jackets because I’m a wimp when it comes to the cold- anything below 50 is miserable weather to me. I wanted something that could keep me as warm as my bed, but also allow me to shed layers if strenuous exercise started making it a bit too warm. My ONLY very menial gripe is about the collar, which (even with the head piece removed) is a tad bulky and restricts movement (or at least makes it a tad uncomfortable). For the quality of the jacket I can live with that! Not to mention, I’ve already heard a lot of compliments just about its appearance and I keep getting asked where I bought it!

I tried on a large in a store and it was just a little snug (wanted to be able to fit a hoodie under it) so I ordered the x-large online. While it fits, I doesn't fit like an x-l should - I don't wear an x-l in anything and it is tight in the arms and around the mid-section. Overall the quality looks wonderful but I just got it so I don't know how it stands in the cold weather.

The jacket is very warm. I like how it has thumb holes. It runs a little big in my opinion but that's a great because you can comftorably put a sweatshirt underneath it. 5 stars.

I am going to be working at a ski resort this winter, so I decided to invest in a new wintersport jacket. I ordered the cherrybomb color in this style, and the jacket is spot on. The internal jacket is great for daily outdoor activities, and it's very warm on its own. While I haven't yet used the entire jacket on the mountain, I'm confident that it will be very comfortable and, more importantly, warm.
I'm 5'6 and about 120 lbs. Normally, I waver between small and extra small items, but I went with a small on this, and it fits perfectly. I agree that you should probably order one size up from what you normally would, just so that you'll have more room for layering. The internal jacket seems to run a tad small as well, so you're better off going a little bit bigger just to ensure a nice fit.
I would definitely recommend this jacket for the price.

I purchased this jacket online after trying it on in a local store. (The store did not have the color I wanted.) I ordered an XL because when I tried on the Large it was a bit more snug around the bottom and in the arms than I wanted it to be. I was glad I had the opportunity to try it on before buying to ensure that I got the perfect fit. This is a beautiful, well-made jacket. The Omni-Heat technology is truly amazing! It's performance is unlike any other winter coat I have ever owned. I know I made the right choice in purchasing this one.

Obviously the ads are just that ads intended to make you purchase a product. and while I did and am happy with it, you can't go out in just a tank top on top and expect that the jacket will keep you warm. I will need to maintain somer serious base layers to take this thing out in a minnesota winter. but for the transitional seasons.. Pre-tundra and post-ice queen weather it will do the trick. The thumb holes are great and line up perfectly with a lot of my gear from other companies which is nice. I don't know if I believe that the little silver dots do an ounce of good, so if you're looking to save a few bucks you could probably go with a different version for the same function.

I bought this to wear at my son's football game. I'm an incomplete para and have problems staying warm. This jacket fits the bill. The omni-heat lining is amazing and because I was so impressed, I have since bought Omn-Heat Bugaboots, , Kaleidaslope II, and the Baselayer tops. This jacket is so warm, I stay nice and toasty at Montana sporting events, but also when participating in winter sports. I only have a few complants: I can't wear the liner by itself. I'm a DD and can't zip it comfortably. When it's zipped into the shell, it fits fine. It's also not water resistant. So if I try to wear alone, I get wet. But there are times that the shell over the liner is just too hot. This is the reason for the Kaleidaslope II purchase. So I can wear the base layer alone without getting wet, but zip into the shell if I want more warmth. When I'm snowshoeing in the backcountry. I don't want to carry two winter coats.

I really love the look of the jacket online and the interchange is especially appealing; however, when I put the jacket on I felt like I put on 30 lbs because it's so bulky. I also found the wrists of the interchange to be quite small. Thanks to the wonderful customer service at the downtown location though I was able to find a Mountain Hardware shell I absolutely love.

This is a very good looking coat, but it is also very warm. So far, I have only worn the inner jacket because it hasn't been quite cold enough for the entire jacket. But the inner jacket kept me perfectly warm in the 30 degree Missouri weather. I look forward to wearing both parts of the jacket in the coming winter months!

When I looked at jackets, this was one that definitely stood out. Yes, it's a little expensive but the quality speaks for itself! I have good friends who recommende the brand because they have had it for 10 years and it still works like new. I was on the border line for measurements and I went ahead with the smaller of the two sizes, and it fts perfectly! I live in Louisiana, and I have plans to go skiing. I will use it for my trip, but I have also started to wear the individual layers to work, and they are awesome!! definitely recommend the jacket to anyone in any state!!

I ordered the grey plaid and it looks a little greenish-gray but it is still cute. It takes about a full 2 minutes to zip or unzip the 2 parts together or apart, and can be a bit frustrating. It hasn't been cold yet but I started sweating when I tried it on in my house. I ordered a large (mostly because of my bust) but it is actually a bit too large. I guess It's good for additional under layers if I need them though.

I'm a small 20 year old woman [ 5'2" and 110lbs] I bought a size small even though my measurements fit into the extra small size so I could wear bulky sweaters if need be. The small fits pretty perfectly though with or without a hoodie/sweater so I'd advise buying a size higher than you need for wiggle room.
The stitching is loose on the inner jacket's thumbholes. They get painful after a while because they dig into my skin between my thumb and pointer finger even though she sleeves are slightly too long.
Also when I received the coat I unsnapped the snow skirt to show family how it works, and one of the snaps fell off.
So overall the quality is iffy, but it does appear to be warm enough for fall. I've only been wearing the inner jacket so far. Winter hasnt come yet, so I can't say it's warm enough for that.
I got it in black plaid and it does look very cute with jeans and boots.

This is an awesome jacket! It is the second interchange jacket I have purchased, the first one three years ago, and this one is even better! I bought the blue and the color is vibrant without being overpowering and the subtle background design adds interest. The inner jacket is great on its own, and together the coat is warm, yet comfortable. The fit is absolutely perfect, long enough without being too long, and fitted so its not bulky. I love it!

I have big athletic shoulders and I typically wear a size L in jackets and 12/14 in women's jeans; I bought the XL in this jacket. The shell of the jacket fit me just perfectly. I took out the liner because it fits funny and is pretty bulky; with the liner in the jacket it is too tight around the shoulder area.
