Product Initiatives

Through innovative product initiatives and cause marketing campaigns, Columbia is able to increase awareness and raise support for important outdoor industry causes.

I Wear Pink

Columbia and the National Breast Cancer Foundation partnered to create I Wear Pink, an apparel collection which benefits the Foundation and contributes funds to provide mammogram services for those in need. Since its inception in 2007, this program has raised over $1 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The entire donation is dedicated to providing mammograms for those in need.

In 2015, we expanded our partnership to include the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Through support from I Wear Pink, CBCF will continue to make significant investments in research, education and support programs for those affected by breast cancer across Canada.

How does the program work?

Each year we develop a limited collection of styles for women and men branded with the pink breast-cancer-awareness ribbon. For each item sold-in to retailers in the U.S. and Canada, Columbia and each participating retailer donate $1.00 for every garment (and $.50 for each hat/cap) to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation respectively.

Where is the program offered?

Currently, the program is offered in North America. In 2015, we expanded the program beyond the United States to include Canada. Participation of retailers has grown from six in 2007 to over 100 to date. You can also shop the collection year-round on our site. Help support the cause by shopping these functional and stylish looks today.

Columbia is committed to protecting and preserving America’s national parks. In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service, Columbia is launching an innovative program with the National Park Foundation. The goal of the National Park Program is to educate us all about the great natural and cultural resources available in our backyards, and inspire everyone to get outside and find your park!

Our Pledge

For Spring 2016, we’ve designed a limited collection of men’s and women’s styles with colorful patches or graphics celebrating selected national park sites. Columbia and participating retailers will donate to the National Park Foundation – $1.00 for every jacket and $.50 for every tee and cap – sold-in to United States retailers. We anticipate a minimum donation of $100,000 to the National Park Foundation in 2016 due to this program.

National Parks Foundation

Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation is founded on a legacy that began more than a century ago, when private citizens from all walks of life took action to establish and protect our national parks. Today, the National Park Foundation carries on that tradition as the only national charitable nonprofit whose sole mission is to directly support the National Park Service and inspire new generations of national park enthusiasts.

We Need You

With your support, this initiative will allow Columbia and our retail partners to help fund national park education and conservation projects. Celebrate the National Park Service Centennial with us and take a look at this inspiring “collectible” collection of the wonderful, wild places that we all love.

Omni-Shade Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Approval

Columbia partners with The Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF) to help educate consumers how to safely enjoy the outdoors. SCF is the only international organization devoted solely to combating the world's most common cancer, now occurring at epidemic levels. More than a million new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States every year.

Our Omni-Shade line has earned the SCF's Seal of Recommendation which is awarded to ultraviolet (UV) protection products with a minimum of IPF 30 that meet their specific criteria. Columbia Sportswear is the first international large apparel company to hold the seal.

Additionally, we have partnered with the SCF to produce 'Rays' Awareness: Science of Sun Safety curriculum designed for 5th and 6th grade students. This curriculum has been distributed throughout the Southern United States and is available for download here.
