Women’s Heatzone 1000 TurboDown™ Hooded Jacket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight but mighty Yesterday was a good first test of this coat: 20 degrees F with a windchill of around 5 degrees F, light snow, and winds gusting to 30 mph. I wore this coat while running errands around Chicago yesterday afternoon and evening. I spent plenty of time time walking outdoors and waiting at bus stops. Beneath this coat, I wore a VERY thin, long sleeve, wool blend running top + a cashmere sweater + a cashmere scarf. I adjusted the bungee closures along the bottom hem to help seal in heat. At first, I had the coat zipped up to just the bottom of my neck. I was warm but felt an occasional draft inside the coat. Once I zipped the collar up to about the top of my neck, the draft disappeared: no wind got in there. I have 2 older Columbia Omni-Heat coats: one 650 turbodown, another with traditional down fill. Neither of them have this newer “turbodown wave” construction. Under both those older coats, I’d need to wear an Omni-Heat long-sleeve baselayer shirt + a sweater to stay toasty, and I’d still feel some occasional cold wind blowing through the seams. Had I worn an Omni-Heat baselayer beneath this new coat, I’d have been sweaty! Once I had the collar zipped higher, I felt no cold wind blowing through the coat seams. I did notice the outside of the arms weren’t as warm as the rest of the coat, but my arms weren’t freezing. On my short arms, the sleeves are too long. I work around that by either undercuffing them (roll the ends up under the sleeves) to achieve a good sleeve length, or just tightening the Velcro at the ends which produces a bunchier but doable sleeve. I love the zippered pocket on the left sleeve: I keep my public transit pass, lip balm, and a couple tissues in there for quick and easy access. The coat also has 2 large inner pockets, plus an zippered inner pocket. It also has a 2-way zipper, so you can unzip the coat from both top and bottom if you want. The hood is huge since it’s designed to fit over a ski helmet. But there are bungees on either side, plus one in the back of the hood, that let you adjust the size to fit (and stay up on) your head. If you can’t figure out how to get the hood to stay up, feel along the sides of the hood—just above the visible bungee cords—until you feel release buttons. Press and hold those while pulling the cords. See the shiny silver “Columbia Titanium” logo on the front of the coat? There’s a second one, just as big, on the back, centered between your shoulder blades. It’s covered up by the hood, so you can’t see it in the product photos. I’m not thrilled about having a second silver logo plastered on the coat... seems kinda cheesy/overkill to have two of those logos plus the silver T on one shoulder. But at least the back one’s covered up most of the time. Overall, I’m very happy with this coat. I may not ski in it (haven’t skied in many years) but I’ll definitely wear it during Chicago’s next round of polar temps. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking jacket I was surprised and pleased with how attractive this jacket is. It is light weight and comfortable. Haven't had a chance to test the warmth yet. If it is as warm as advertised it will be the only coat I ski in next winter. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the greatest coat Love this coat comfortable and warm. I had to buy two. Only had the first one for about a month before it was stolen. I loved it so much I bought another one before it went out of season. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feels comfy and warm in it I couldn't try it on outside since most of the snow has already melted in the Sierras. Only issue I have is that some lumps of black thread iate visible under the top thin layer of the jacket, which look like blots of ink. It is in two different spots on the front part of the jacket, which I am conscious of. It may not be too obvious until you look close enough. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight jacket for extreme weather I bought this jacket for a winter trip in Iceland. I am a person who is cold all the time and this jacket was my best friend on this trip. It kept me warm under all conditions: heavy snow, heavy rain and strong winds all combined with temperatures below 0ºC. I still had to layer it with a thermal and a fleece most of the time. The Omni heat really works and if you go on a more vigorous trecking it will make you sweat but as soon as you stop (or open the jacket) you'll feel dry again as it allows the transpiration to leave the jacket. When wet it dries very quickly. Be careful with what you put on the external pockets as those are not waterproofing. I couldn't fit it on the pocket as it is advertised, but it does occupy a tiny space on your bag and its super light weight. The zippers keep on getting stuck, that will be my only negative comment. My size was falling between an S and and M and I ended up ordering an S. i'm glad I did it as the jacket runs very large. Even with the S I was able yo add many layers below and this jacket only works if its close to your body, not allowing the cold air to get in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Word of warning If you select the red color please be aware that some darker down material will show thru the thin outer casing and give the jacket a spotty or dirty look. After doing research, I've found this is very common in down jackets that are of a lighter color and not a "Defect" per se. So, if this will bother you, I'd suggest either the black or dark blue color

Rated 4 out of 5 by from warm but not super warm Love the light weight and like many have posted, the jacket is warm for its weight. However when I wear it in cold weather my body is warm but my arms are noticeably cold from the shoulders down. Not sure if there is a lack of insulation or what. When I come in and take the jacket off you can feel the cold inside the jacket in the arm area whereas the rest of the jacket is not cold to touch inside. So if you are looking for a jacket for outside in truly cold weather you will either have to size up and layer under to keep warm or look elsewhere. If cold arms don't bother you or you are not out in -15C or colder often this is probably a great jacket but otherwise be prepared to not be as warm as you might expect.
